La guida presenta quindici itinerari che si sviluppano a partire dalle alture di Genova, per poi scendere nei vicoli del centro storico, proseguire lungo la riviera di levante da Sori a Recco e Camogli, da Portofino a San Fruttuoso, da Santa Margherita a Rapallo e Zoagli passando per San Michele di Pagana. Da Chiavari si sale a Leivi, da Lavagna si continua a oriente verso Sestri Levante, Riva Trigoso per terminare a Moneglia. Si passa quindi all’entroterra con Santo Stefano d’Aveto, Torriglia, la valle Scrivia e la valle Stura per finire sulla riviera di ponente da Arenzano a Cogoleto.
Lungo il percorso si incontrano numerose testimonianze architettoniche del passato, dai più recenti forti del capoluogo, alle antiche torri nei “caruggi”, alle altre numerose torri di avvistamento disseminate lungo la costa, dove si trovano piccole strutture fortificate costruite per difendersi dalle incursioni dei pirati barbareschi, per finire ai castelli medioevali dell’interno, posti sulle alture o all’ ingresso delle valli in posizione strategica. La presenza di borghi pittoreschi, di sentieri a picco sul mare, di splendidi panorami circondati da un alone di mistero trasforma il cammino in un suggestivo tuffo nel passato tra storia e leggenda.
Il volume è corredato dalle tracce GPX degli itinerari da scaricare sullo smartphone e da video che presentano le testimonianze storico-architettoniche di ciascun percorso.
The guide presents fifteen itineraries that start from the heights of Genoa, then descend into the narrow alleys of the historic center, continue along the eastern Riviera from Sori to Recco and Camogli, from Portofino to San Fruttuoso, from Santa Margherita to Rapallo and Zoagli, passing through San Michele di Pagana. From Chiavari, one ascends to Leivi, and from Lavagna, the journey continues eastward towards Sestri Levante, Riva Trigoso, and ends in Moneglia. The route then moves inland, covering Santo Stefano d’Aveto, Torriglia, the Scrivia Valley, and the Stura Valley, ultimately reaching the western Riviera from Arenzano to Cogoleto.
Along the way, numerous architectural landmarks of the past are encountered, from the more recent forts of the capital to the ancient towers in the “caruggi” (narrow streets), as well as many other watchtowers scattered along the coast, where small fortified structures were built to defend against the incursions of Barbary pirates. The journey also leads to medieval castles inland, situated on the heights or at the entrances of the valleys in strategic positions. The presence of picturesque villages, cliffs overlooking the sea, and splendid panoramas surrounded by an aura of mystery turns the path into a captivating dive into the past, blending history and legend.
